Company History / Background

HKPB Scientific was founded by two scientists and graduates of the University of Limerick; Dr. Donncha Haverty (CEO) and Dr. Brendan Kennedy (CTO). In its early days HKPB Scientific was quickly recognised as one of the most promising start-up companies in Ireland. The company won numerous national awards for its technologies. In 2010 the team was augmented further by the appointment of Mr. David O'Flynn of Tolisons Private Equity as CFO of the company.

The company has also built up a strong research relationship with the University of Limerick and has to date developed two biotechnology platform technologies that have been progressed to an advanced stage of international protection. HKPB's first technology allows for the synthesis of a biomaterial called hydroxyapatite in high purity. This technology is being commercialised in PremierBiomaterials, a group company of HKPB Scientific. The company's second technology, a coating technology of particular relevance to the biomedical devices industry, is being developed in conjunction with Irish and international partners.

HKPB Scientific is actively expanding its' portfolio of technologies within the biomedical space and is also expanding into new areas such as providing solutions to the materials science challenges faced in the renewable energy sector. HKPB is an active participant in the EU frameworks and seeks to broaden its' technological horizon through interactions with other dynamic national and international research groups, SMEs and others.
